light duty onlyMay 12, 2007
By T. Dillenkofer This is a good deal for the price, but I wouldn't expect it to last a long time in a hard production environment, or when used in a location shoot. I use this stand to support a homemade soft keylight that only weighs about 10 lbs and equally distributes it's weight over the cross bar. I would feel mighty uncomfortable using this stand to support heavier lights without being very, very careful to evenly distribute the weight due to the lack of angle supports for the crossbar. Still, in a controlled studio environment it should be fine.

Adequate stand, not many complaintsSep 29, 2009

I used this stand for my wedding reception/house party a couple weeks ago. I had the following items hanging on the rack - 1 Chauvet Mini-Line Dancer 1 Eliminator Lighting Roto-Saucer 1 American DJ Light Saver 1 Chauvet Par 36 Spotlight
I mounted the two moving light units at the far ends of the crossbar and used the inner mounts for the light saver and the spotlight. This did seem to be a lot of weight, but there was no problem with the stand itself. I just felt like it was 'top heavy' and liable to fall over. So I set it up behind a chest of drawers as a "just in case" measure.
The mounting was adequate, though it's an area upon which American DJ can probably make some improvement. I found it difficult to completely tighten the wingnut as it was located 'inside' the mounting bracket of whatever device I was attaching. Additionally, the locations of the mounting bolts are not really flexible - you have the holes that are pre-drilled, and that's it.
But, overall, I was able to make this work for my intended use. To back up another reviewers comment, it probably isn't something I would trust to setup and tear down multiple times per week for several years. But it met my needs.

9FT WobbleMay 21, 2010

Only three lights up in the air, and I'm worried about... everything. It tilts to one side... and wobbles- The fine threaded screws stripped at a gig, leaving me with a 5' light stand. The hardware was replaced, and i drilled pin holes to keep my lights up. one bump and my T-bar spins in circles. The tubing in very skinny, and the legs are springy. it lasted about 6 months.
decent valueDec 06, 2011

These are certainly cheap enough and they are sturdy enough for my Puck LED pars but they are a bit on the heavy side. My speaker stands that will support Mackie 450s and QSC 12s are significantly lighter. How'd that happen? If I had it to do over again, and I might anyway, I may look further into how I might fabricate some tall tube insert to use the larger diameter (but significantly lighter) speaker stands out there.
