3Do not buy this as a washMar 03, 2011
By James H
I need a high power UV light and since the Chauvet LED Shadow has been back ordered by everyone for over a month and won't be available for at least another month I needed an alternative solution. I figured the American DJ P-64LED/UV would do the trick if I put a diffusion filter in front of it. Note that its more expensive than the LED Shadow, has less LEDs and a narrower beam. All negatives IMHO. Well I just unpacked this about 30 minutes ago and nearly panicked. Default it has a constant strobe effect and the manual makes it sound like you can't disable the strobe. Turn all 4 strobe related switches off and it stops. I'm a bit concerned about the thing anyway, it seems to flicker a lot anytime I move or adjust it. Power plug is firmly connected, but all LEDs (including power LED) flicker if I jiggle it. I'm not particularly happy with it considering the price, if you can get Chauvet buy that instead its much higher quality. But if you need a long-throw UV par I suppose this would do.

3good quality but big and not very brightNov 17, 2010
By M. Morgan
I bought one when they were about $150 for use as party / special effects light, and as with all Am DJ products the quality and features are great, but the light output is very disappointing. It is not very bright at all, and found even for small areas more than 10 ft x 10 ft you need more than one, especially if there is any other ambient light or other lighting effects in use at the same time. I added a diffuser lens from TAP plastics in the included gel frame, which helps spread the output over a bigger area, but at the penalty of diluting the light area.
Strobe function is pretty worthless, but this is true for almost any LED strobe, they simply do not turn on & off fast enough to mimic a good old fashioned xenon flash strobe.
Lastly, this is a BIG housing, true to the P64 size, but the case is 95% empty, and could be made much smaller with the same size output aperture. This is a big deal if you constantly move your equipment around.
I am considering either another one of these, or better yet the chauvet flat panel version is cheaper and has more LED's. I will decide here in a minute... Just wanted to pass this along. Plus I noticed on some forums that Am DJ now only offers support on a paid basis and that is a deal breaker for me!

5Great Blacklight for Theatre Use!Jan 31, 2010
By WASK
I design lights for dance concerts (higher education and professional companies) and bought this blacklight to use to fulfill a director's request. I needed to cover the entire stage (30x30ish) with a blacklight wash and be able to control it from a light board. This instrument did the trick! It was the cheapest option I could find to meet my requirements and it worked great! I'd post a pic if I had one...
