Great sound in a nice little guitar.Oct 29, 2009
By easy reader I bought one of these little guitars in 2001 and keep it in a hardshell case made for a baby Taylor--it fits perfectly.
The tone is understandably bright compared to a full-sized guitar of the same materials. The tone is clear with a wonderful resonance and sustain--and the guitar has quite a bit of volume for its size.
The neck, though small, is comfortable and easily played--especially compared to some other "backpacker" type travel guitars. This is a great companion for traveling when you want a "real" guitar but don't want to hassle with a full sized instrument. (But I wouldn't recommend backpacking with it.)
I had occasion to travel by plane with mine and I was blessed by always being allowed to have it as a carry-on.
To my eye it's attractive and it was enthusiastically appreciated by my other guitar-playing friends. [...]
Ok for the price rangeApr 02, 2012

It's really tough to find stringed instruments that are half-decent and sub-$200. The Apple AA 12-4 by Ovation is 1/2 size mini guitar in their low price Applause Line. The build quality and finish is pretty good and the action was great. It's got a Rosewood fretboard and bridge and the top is Spruce. Intonation was also ok. It sounds just ok but for a body this small I think that's fine. Like most Ovations it's got 2 pegs for a strap which I think is great. If I have one complain it's that it gets out of tune very quickly quickly. Must be the cheap tuning pegs.
So overall I'm happy with the purchase. Not thrilled because of the tuning problems but content. I bought it for my little kid and it's nice for them to have a guitar that looks just like dad's.
