Córdoba 20TM-CEAug 23, 2009
By J. Cochran

I wanted a uke look and a uke plugged in sound. Ran across the Córdoba 20TM-CEsolid mahog tenor cutaway with active preamp/eq. Made in Portugal
I like it a lot.
Feel: smooth matte finish Action: good out of box - right nut height Sound: VERY pleased that it has a sound akin to a soprano, not the ringing guitarry sound some tenors have. Plugged in: roll back the treb, sounds like a uke. I always dislike the percussive "click" sound some UST pickups make. If you keep the treb and brilliance right, this one does not have that irritation. Workmanship: Body finish, neck, all smooth and precise. Rosewood bridge a little on the grainy side finish-wise. A few mill marks on rosewood fretboard. No big deal on these. Interior wiring neat. No glue blotches. I like the classical guitar style tie on bridge. Tuners: geared, white buttons kind of blah, tunes OK. Just OK, not super. Wood: All solid. They say mahogany. It has a stripey appearance - maybe sapelle. Smell: Glue and, dare I hazard a guess - I think I smell sapele, not mahogany. Appearance: It has a humble ukey look - What I thought was a decal rosette (similer to Martin 15 series guitar rosette decal) turns out to be an actual inlaid rosette - nice. Pearloid fretboard markers are subtle, not flashy. Humble is good. Intonation: Good. 12th fret harmonics seem right, with slight difference on the C string - pretty common. Playability: Just great, as is from the box. Strings: Came with Aquilla high G, no wound. I think some distributers may have it with wound C and darker strings. I like it as is.
Overall: This ukulele does what I wanted it for: A good plugged in sound and good acoustic sound that sounds more like a soprano than a typical tenor. A nice humble ukulele appearance. Big factor: I enjoy playing it.
Caveat: If you are looking for that ringing guitar-like sound of some modern tenors, this may not be for you.
Years back I played some ukes from Portugal and did not like them. Those were overbraced and quirky. This is not like that. It reminds me of the feel, sound, and finish of a moderate Chinese uke - like an Ohana.
I'm very happy with it.

Quality and Features- Terrific for the PriceSep 23, 2009

My new Cordoba 20TM-CE isn't fancy but it is a well-made, nice-sounding instrument at a great price. The quality of the craftsmanship wasn't compromised to achieve price. The solid African mahogany is a very good tone wood. There are much more expensive woods that could have been used, but African mahogany while less expensive is being used in many well-respected guitars. The missing expensive things like bindings would only have been for looks anyway. I like the tone which is a bit brighter than my Pono solid Ohai tenor ukulele. It came with Aquila strings which are a real favorite of today's ukulele players. I replaced the G string with an an Aquila low G string. It sounds really nice both acoustically and when plugged in. The solid African mahogany is finished beautifully and has nice grain. The fretboard is set up very well and all fret positions play cleanly (not bad for an inexpensive cutaway.) I've listened to a bunch of tenor ukuleles in this price range and this ukulele sounds and plays as well as the best, plus you get a very adequate pickup without blowing your budget.

Very nice little UkuleleFeb 03, 2010
By Lindsey Colby I don't have much more to contribute aside from the other reviews, but this is a beautiful little instrument. Very sweet sound, wonderful craftsmanship, an electronic pickup that I have not yet tried (!), Mahogany and rosewood, a very nice combo. I'm hooked on it, I play it constantly. I started first on a soprano ukulele but much prefer the tenor. The cutaway design works very well; if you want to learn the ukulele right, learn to play up the neck. I'm very happy with this instrument, you won't be disappointed. Aloha. :)

Super Uke!Jan 15, 2011
By music man This is an outstanding buy! The uke shows all the trademarks of being handmade buy a skilled artisan - beautiful wood and finish. Strings were perfectly installed and the electronics are great. The case - gig bag was an unexpected bonus - super padded and well made. No buyer remorse here!

Cordoba UkeAug 15, 2011
By SydFloyd73 This is a great playing and sounding ukulele. I already had 2 ukuleles before I bought this one. I was at my local Best Buy looking around there musical department when I seen the Coedoba hanging on the wall. I could not believe how well it played and the sound that came from it. I already have the Fender Nohea Koa Tenor Uke and a Kala Soprano uke(great uke for the price)But the Cordoba blows the Fender one away!!! in sound and playing action. Well worth the $200 bucks!! I can not stop playing this Uke...
