2Great sound, but a bitch playing while standingNov 01, 2011
By gvr
Great bass, cool sound and of course looks.. But the main disadvantage is that its not properly balanced. So when playing it standing up, the neck drops down and especially for beginners in the fine art or bass-playing this is a huge disadvantage. I will sell mine and buy a conventional modelled one. For now, comfort is more important than looks..

This bass is decent but is not as advertised. I own this bass. The action is fairly low but there is a good amount of string buzzing.
It is sold as a mahogany "neck thru" bass when in fact it is made from Basswood with a "bolt on" maple neck. After I bought the bass under a false description and 10 days of arguing with the guys at Dean they finally changed the item description at their website but Dean has not cared enough about their distributors or customers to see that the description is changed at the distribution websites as well. They also did not care that I was stuck with a bass I really did not want. I expected a one piece bass that was mahogany like I purchased not a bolt on basswood bass.
Even the product description and the Metalman series description do not match right here at Amazon on this very page. This is not Amazon's fault as they can only use info given to them by Dean the manufacturer. I have used Dean instruments since the mid 80's and I have to say I am very dissapointed in Dean and especially their customer service. I do not appreciate deceptive trade practices so I would say buy another brand of Bass.

2Good looks...Thats it.Mar 16, 2012

This was my first brand new bass. IT IS NOT A NECK THROUGH, IT JUST LOOKS KIND OF LIKE ONE.
PRO:
I bought it because i like the body style- I wanted something unique that wasn't too out there like a lot of the other Dean models. After I had some problems with it, I even sanded the wings down and stained them a mellow red to give it more of the neck-thru look which I have gotten complements for.
CONS:
And that's about as far as the good things go with this bass. I have had so many problems with it. When it arrived, the paint had bubbles and cracks, I patched them up with black nail polish but that only looks so good. The action was and still is bad, with the bridge adjusters at their lowest setting the strings are still about 1/3 inch above the fretboard which makes playing it harder than it should. The sound... It sounds like you have a muff pedal on all the time, there are, and never will be any clean sounds coming from this thing. However, it's marketed towards metal enthusiasts, so this may be a good thing. I do like it though, it's kind of a Geddy Lee type distortion and it can be fun to play with that sound, but if you want to play anything other than metal, rock or some really funky funk, it'll stick out like a sore thumb. Finally, the wiring. I have had too many problems to count with the wiring on this thing. The kids in the sweat shop really messed mine up because I have had to fix solders many times, and replace wires.

CONCLUSION: If you want a nice looking, unique bass, this is a good one. I'd also say that it would be an OK first bass. But this isn't an all around bass, it's a fuzzy bass. If I could do it again, I would go with a less unique low end Fender or Ibanez, or a used bass. Bud gosh, I really like the body style, that's what separates this from a 1 to a 2.

5Excellent look, heavy sound!!!Apr 07, 2011
By Mario Araya
I bought Demonator last November, ITS AWESOME!!!, certainly it is not a super pro bass, but it is a perfect quality-price combination; for this price you can't get a recognized brand instrument!!!

Pros
cool shape, uncommon but really comfortable for playing while sitting
great sound, perfect for heavy, almost all rock styles etc

cons
cool shape makes hard to find a case
black shinny finish gets dirty and fingerprinted easily

Recommendation
BUY IT!!
