Dean GuitarMay 01, 2010
By J. Triplett I purchased the Dean guitar for my grandson. It arrived in good shape with adequate packaging to assure no damage was done in transport. I have a Martin D-42 that I play, which is a beautiful instrument. I was surprised at the volume and tonal quality of the Dean. The action is low now with no buzz, after I adjusted the truss rod. The workmanship of the guitar is of good quality. I would recommend this guitar for a beginning guitar or intermediate guitar player. Amazon.com's price was about 1/2 the cost compared to other .com music stores.
You should probably just buy it.Jun 06, 2011
By Dubwax This guitar is beautiful. I purchased this guitar for $90 in the Natural Gloss finish. Mahogany back and sides, solid spruce top, rosewood fingerboard. It does not look like a cheap guitar, it does not play like a cheap guitar and it does not sound like a cheap guitar. This guitar is advertised as a beginner guitar but I know plenty of skilled guitar players that don't even have guitars this nice.
The Dean Tradition AK48 has a MSRP of $338.88 with most retailers selling it for $219 (Dean Tradition Acoustic Guitar with Hardshell Case). That's for the guitar and a hardshell case. The package is more than $100 cheaper than the guitar/case, but it also includes a gig bag, pitch pipe (mine came with a digital tuner), and picks. This is probably everything that most people will need.
It is made in China as are most of the guitars in this price range.
Everything about it is very solid. The construction seems to be above standard for the line. Side by side with a Takamine Jasmine S35 and it's blatantly obvious which one is of higher quality.
It holds tune really well. It sounds very clear but has a slight resonance issue with the low-mids. The neck is very nice and plays effortlessly. No issues with sharp frets or buzzing out. I thought it sounded good when I got it and then I put D'Addario 12's on it and it sounded even better.
Personally, I would prefer a cutaway. It would also be nice to have electronics. My only other gripe would be that it is missing a second strap post, so if you want to wear a strap you have to tie it around the top of the neck. The gloss finish is really nice but it's a fingerprint magnet.
That being said, I think it is an exceptional value that cannot be matched. You should probably just buy it.

Great guitar....regardless of the price.Nov 10, 2010
By cjsunne I just got this guitar today, and played it for 3 hours straight. It looks great, and sounds even better. Once I tuned it up, it held a tune the whole time I played. I have a Dean Exotica that is much more expensive, and bought this one as my practice guitar. In all honesty, this one might actually have a better sound. This is a great guitar for the money. It arrived very well packaged, and is a major upgrade from my old practice guitar (Gibson Maestro). Dean has a great line up of guitars, and this one is no exception. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a solid beginner or intermediate guitar.

Waste of time and of money!!!Sep 11, 2011
By sratliff The guitar looks beautiful. My guitar came with no picks or a pitch pipe. I had to send it back and get a replacement guitar, and the replacement guitar came with no picks or a pitch pipe. It was out of tune and the string were loose. It was a waste of time and money. I wouldn't recommend this guitar to anyone. It has no way to hook the guitar up to an amp or the computer. I was very disappointed. I'm not happy with the purchase. WASTE OF MONEY!
