Poor Materials and ConstructionNov 08, 2011

The description for this product does not accurately describe the drum. Had I know the quality of this drum I would have taken the money and purchased a more expensive drum. The skin is not pulled tight enough, creating this low pitch sound. It cannot be used as a drum you would play with in a group, it would be more like used for a ceremony. I have worked with many different types of ceremonial drums this is on the very low end. I don't even use it anymore because of the poor construction, the frame of the drum looks like it has been treated with water to make it bend into a round shape, making me concerned that over time will this break?
The beater that is not pictured has an overly large head with tons of stuffing, as if a beater that was made tighter with less stuffing would break or tear the skin of the drum. The double rope makes it hard to hold the drum so for me with my medium size hands makes it hurt because there is not enough room. It's great that it is a double sided drum, but perhaps it would be best if they just made it one sided so that they could use a skin that was stronger. The skin looks and feels cheap, it looks more like plastic than anything else.
With the rope used to tighten the skin over the drum, looks like the holes were made too large or perhaps it even tore later after threading the rope through, so I am concerned over time if this will cause the skin to tear further down the road. It would cost more to money to make the repairs, again next time I would purchase a drum with better construction even if it cost more.
