I wanted an inexpensive, colorful drum for my 9 year old nephew for xmas. It fit the bill. However, I wish I had spent a little more for a better drum. It is playable, but. definitely has its limitations. Obviously, the sound is not that great and lacks the range of tones a larger drum and better skin would have. But, I got what I paid for and for him, it is a nice introduction to Middle Eastern drumming.
