4Cool tool for songwriters and woodsheddersApr 12, 2010
By Scott "ToneStalker"
My iDea guitar arrived 3 days ago, and out of the box, the guitar's fit and finish was really solid, the unplugged tone was adequate, with a surprisingly amount of volume and bass response, and the playability was just "ok" with action a little high for my taste.

Important as these things are, it's the built in MP3 player/recorder/preamp that I'm really interested in, and like any red blooded man, I dug into this thing without the aid of instructions.

The interface is pretty simple to operate considering the number of functions it controls, though the little joystick controller feels like I could crush it with my thumb. That said, my cellphone feels the same and in 2 years of use, I haven't broken it yet, so who knows? The loop feature is a little imprecise, but it works for snagging a phrase and repeating it ad infitum.

I'm interested in this guitar as a songwriting tool, practice tool, and possibly a performance tool, though my initial impression is that it will be better suited for the first 2, as I've already used up 25% of the memory just farting around with it, so it probably doesn't have capacity to hold several sets of backing tracks.

All in all...I like it. A really useful tool for songwriting and woodshedding.

4You can't go wrong with an OvationMay 23, 2010
By J. M. Mosquera "jmm521"
I purchased this on Amazon about a month ago. Its sound is good acoustically, but where it really shines is in the integration of the mp3 player recorder. It is really easy to use and the sound quality is amazing. Instant feedback helps you to improve your playing. It works well with an amp too. I bought a small fender amp to accompany it. I have had another ovation for over 20 years and it sounds as good today as the day I got if. You really can't go wrong with an ovation!

3Not a very good IdeaNov 21, 2011
By ravelli the magician
I bought my Ovation* Idea not even a year ago, The sound is just as good as any Ovation* Guitar, clear and good... the first problem I experienced was that one side the battery terminal came off when trying to replace the battery, having to repair it with a new one from radio shack, not an easy task for someone with no electric repair skills... then the preamp beguin to lower the volume while playing, I thought it was a battery problem but not, I had to unplug the cable to restore the desired volume again, Now recently my built-in tunner start acting funny, some how it uncalibrated itself, what I mean it does not read the proper sound given by the string being plucked, even after tunning the guitar with other external guitar tunners, The 6th (E) reads as (A), 5th (A) as (D) and so on, there is no way to recalibrate even after resetting to factory settings... It's broken what do you expect "Its made in CHINA"

3Not the big ideaMar 09, 2011
By D. Rodriguez
The sound of the guitar plugged is like all the ovation, impressive but, the fabrication of this guitar is very cheap, the bridge came out at the second week that I own the guitar, and I could not put my recorded music in the laptop. The guitar is made in China not in Korea, so don not wait for a big quality fab... I had an ovation celebrity made in Korea 6 years ago and the sound unplugged is notable so I returned the guitar very dissapointed in that way. But i had my good quality moments with the guitar making solo jams, the mid deep is more confortable than the slim, The guitar has no clear finish but looks nice to me, If the bridge does not came out I will not returned. For the price is a good option but the China thing does not gave me trust to buy it again.
