2nd yr. violin playerOct 17, 2009

"B Like Jesus"
We rented a violin the first year for about $280. We had no clue thinking violins were $300-$500. My son wanted to play a 2nd year so we decided to buy one. This is it. He loves it and is very proud to have it. We decided to buy in the mid range of $50 - $150 and went for the $85 violin. It was easy to put the bridge on. My 10 year old did it his self and the music teacher tuned it up in about 5min. So far so good and waaaaaaaaay better than forking over $28 a month for 10 months.

Bad Quality Even for a BeginnerDec 02, 2010
By Blair A. Anessi Violin will not hold a tune at all. Right after you tune it, it starts to loosen immediately and by the end of one session the larger string has usually come undone all the way. Bought a cheap one for our 8 year old who is trying it out. You get what you pay for here. Amazon's return policy won't let us return it either even though it is only a month and a half out and took this long to figure out it was basically broken. We can all accept minimal quality but not below minimum to where it doesn't even function. Either buy a nicer one or RENT like we are going to now do.

Poorly ManufacturedOct 11, 2010
By kak While this looked like a great deal, especially for my 9-year-old's first violin, she can't use it because the pegs are too big for the holes, so it can't hold a tune, and the bridge is too big, so the strings are too high. I would have to invest more to repair this than I paid for it and that's ridiculous. . . I'm returning it. Don't be fooled by the nice appearance!

Don't buy this item! Not as pictured!Nov 04, 2011
By Mark Yackley Bought for our son who's been playing almost a year. So we're not experts, but know enough to know this is junk. Don't buy it, buy the Cecelio.
Listed as having fine tuners. The style of tuners on the one we received were not what is pictured! What we got were the cheap black fine tuners. Decent fine tuners have a grove on the piece that is behind the little fine-tuner twisting nut. These fine tuners are the cheap black ones that have no groove and what happens is when you twist them to tune, they fall off the piece behind and it does nothing - you end up tuning only with the pegs anyway.
The fingerboard is poorly "ebonized" wood. The paint was chalky and streaky.
The strings were cheap and sounded awful. Music teacher recommended we buy a better set of strings, new tailpiece and fine-tuners...that would have cost slightly less than this entire violin did. So we returned it and bought the Cecelio - which teacher has heard/seen and thought was a decent violin for the price.
The bow was not haired well (it was too long) and to tighten it enough to play, we had to tighten it so much the bow lost any bow in it and was a severely acute rectangle.

By MMS Great buy for the price. However, had to have a Luthier set the instrument up. Fit the tuners, set the bridge and a new set of strings. Well worth the $100.00 set up fee.
