Thinking A Custom...Think AgainMay 20, 2011
By ZGR8DCVER I have been a Zildjian person for a long time........
Recently, I have fell in love with a few offerings from Sabian. Including, the HHX Evolution series. This cymbal was my first foray back into the Sabian world. After playing it; I sold both of my A Custom's(16"&18") and replaced them with HHX Evolution's! I own one 16"(my first) and one 18" Nearly every gig, I get someone asking "what is that crash?" "Sabian???" "Really?!?" I know two guys who have picked up an HHX Evolution since hearing mine. These are guys who would never play anything but Zildjian!
This cymbal does "cut" I have had other drummers say, "that sounds a bit thin," however once played in the mix their opinions change! I am currently looking to get an "O-Zone" of the same series, not sure on size yet. I won't go into the O-Zone since it is a different product, but check them out if you have not yet.
Sabian 18 Inch HHX Evolution O-ZONE Crash
Sound-wise: Rapid response, shimmery/smooth explosion, rapid buttery decay. Also has a great bell!
Feel: Very soft, extremely sensitive, Thin in Weight
Look: Well, in a word, Beautiful! This cymbal is gorgeous in feel and sound!
At the current price I wouldn't think twice about purchasing this cymbal, I wish I had purchased it for so little! Now, I am not one to buy before listening for a number of reasons. However, from one cymbal lover to another you really can't go wrong with this crash. If you need a 16" that is fast bright and will cut though the wall of guitar/bass/mix look no further.
I would also look at the 18" as it is a bit more versatile. If you are only looking for one crash I would go that route...

Hope this helps and enjoy!
Very Nice CymbalJun 18, 2010
By Andrew Ireland Very smooth and dark. The attack isn't loud but its shimmer is amazing. It's very thin so hitting it is very easy. This cymbal should work for everyone.
